As a Materials Laboratory Manager, you will be tasked to support the management and delivery of materials engineering services related to the A66 Highways project.

What you’ll be doing

  • Support the delivery of CSUK’s Sustainability activities
  • Safe delivery of materials testing support for the project
  • Establishment and maintenance of UKAS accredited test facility
  • Training and development of junior staff
  • Agree testing regimes with site and customer, based on specifications and ITPs
  • Establish equipment requirements, raise orders and manage inventory and budget
  • Establish and manage calibration register and ensure that calibrations are undertaken on time and to correct standards
  • With Materials Technical Manager, organise the UKAS assessment visits
  • Attend Contract Review and Annual Management Review
  • Identifying, recording and reporting of Best Practice and Case Studies
  • Monthly reporting of compliance and other agreed key performance indicators to site management teams and offsite, by due deadlines
  • Undertake audits of laboratory Quality Systems on the project and other projects as required by an agreed rota, and ensure findings are closed
  • Undertake safety inspections of the testing laboratory and report all incidents
  • Participate in Interlaboratory and intra-laboratory test exercises as required by and agreed rota and site requirements
  • Manage dispatch of samples to external test houses and organise receipt and review of reports

The Following Qualities/experience Are Essential

  • Previous experience of running a UKAS accredited laboratory and familiarity of ISO 17025 are essential for this role
  • Experience in auditing, training / development of junior staff and monthly KPI reporting is required
  • Key focus on health and safety within the laboratory, reviewing / signing off risk assessments, methods statements and assisting the site health and safety department with auditing on site if required
  • At a minimum NVQ level 3 or equivalent would be required for this role
  • Ability to operate and work to an agreed budget
  • Materials technical experience is also required to advise the contracts where necessary
  • Must hold a valid CSCS card
