Department Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Company: NT Engineering & Manufacturing
Apply for the Department Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Location: Inverness
Job Description:

Permanent | Day Shift | Competitive Salary + Benefits

Are you an experienced maintenance engineer ready to take the next step into a leadership-focused role? This is a brilliant opportunity to join a well-established heavy industrial operation in the Highlands, where you’ll play a central part in shaping a reliability-centred maintenance culture from the ground up.

The Role

As Department Engineer, you’ll sit at the heart of the maintenance function — bridging the gap between hands‑on technical delivery and strategic reliability improvement. Primarily office‑based, you’ll work in close partnership with operations to plan, lead and continuously improve maintenance activity across site. This isn’t just a technical role. You’ll be managing people, driving standards and genuinely influencing how the engineering function operates day to day.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading the delivery of the weekly maintenance schedule through an information centre and CMMS
  • Managing and developing a team of trades and apprentices, coaching them to a consistently high standard
  • Driving a reliability-focused culture using recognised lean principles
  • Supporting fault finding and diagnosis across complex plant and equipment
  • Managing external contractors to health & safety, cost, time and quality expectations
  • Working towards achieving Isolation Officer (IO) and Senior Authorised Person (SAP) accreditation
  • Supporting new equipment installation and providing long‑term maintenance input
  • Identifying changes in engineering standards and legislation and ensuring site compliance
  • Ensuring all HSEQ standards are upheld and that accidents and incidents are thoroughly investigated with robust corrective actions

What We’re Looking For

  • A solid background in engineering maintenance within a heavy industrial environment — mechanical bias preferred
  • HNC or above in an engineering discipline, or demonstrable experience with a commitment to further study
  • A good working knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation
  • Experience of industrial‑scale process plant operations and maintenance
  • Proven ability to lead, coach and develop engineering teams
  • Strong communication skills — both written and verbal
  • Experience working within a COMAH environment would be a distinct advantage

Hours

Monday – Friday

  • 07:30 – 16:00 (Mon-Thu)
  • 07:30 – 12:30 (Fri)

A great work‑life balance for a senior engineering role in one of Scotland’s most iconic regions.

Why This One’s Worth A Conversation

Roles like this don’t come up often in the Highlands. This is a genuine opportunity to grow into a senior engineering position within a complex, technically challenging environment — while staying rooted in the community and landscape that makes the north of Scotland such a special place to build a career.
