Allotment Co-ordinator / Skilled Gardener

Location: Kensington GardensHourly Rate: £16.24Contract: Permanent, Full‑timeWorking Hours: Monday‑Friday, 07:00‑15:30, 39 hours per week

About the Role

As an Allotment Co‑ordinator / Skilled Gardener, your role is split equally between two responsibilities: managing the allotment and supporting the horticultural resource team. The role requires adaptability and proactive engagement across seasonal variations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the maintenance and direction of the allotment, manage and lead volunteers two days a week.
  • Create, implement and monitor growing plans for the allotment to high standards.
  • Coordinate volunteer activities, supervise sessions, and record attendance.
  • Adhere to safeguarding guidelines for children and adults at risk.
  • Support general gardening duties across the site, including weeding, pruning, irrigating, plant establishment and other horticultural tasks under the Head Gardener and Horticulture Chargehand.
  • Spend the majority of the week in hands‑on gardening with time allocated to volunteer administration and growing plan development.

Requirements

  • Horticultural skills and knowledge, with strong experience in food growing.
  • Experience supervising or supporting volunteers in an outdoor setting (gardening or food growing).
  • Awareness of equality, diversity, health and safety and safeguarding.
  • Excellent people‑skills: team working, negotiating, problem solving, calmness and decisiveness in challenging situations.
  • Commitment to The Royal Parks values of responsibility, excellence, inclusivity, openness and respect, and support for diverse teams.
  • Flexible approach to work.
  • Operational use of Microsoft Office, CRM systems and other IT solutions for volunteer management.
  • First Aid Certificate is favourable.
