Role Description

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Arboricultural Consultant with a focus on planning-related projects. This role involves leading arboricultural assessments, producing expert reports for planning applications, and advising clients on tree retention, protection, and mitigation strategies. The ideal candidate will have excellent technical knowledge, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage project independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct and lead arboricultural surveys and assessments in line with BS 5837:2012 and other relevant guidance.
  • Prepare high-quality Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIAs), Method Statements (AMS), and other reports for planning applications.
  • Provide expert advice on tree management, retention, and mitigation strategies for development projects.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, and planning officers to facilitate project approvals.
  • Mentor and support junior arboricultural staff, contributing to their professional development.
  • Keep abreast of industry standards, legislation, and best practices in arboriculture and planning.
  • Attend site meetings, consultations, and construction monitoring.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Arboricultural Consultant, with significant exposure to planning applications.
  • Full working knowledge of BS 5837:2012, Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs), and relevant planning legislation.
  • Strong report writing skills with attention to technical accuracy and clarity.
  • Membership of professional bodies such as Arboricultural Association (AA) or Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) preferred.
  • Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel.
