To support our Tunnels team, we are looking for a Project Engineer to join us. Working on a significant infrastructure project, you’ll collaborate with the Tunnel’s team, the delivery partner and with the project team in the delivery of the project scope, detailed design assurance, and early and main works activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Tunnel & Approaches Senior Project Engineers to achieve the project scope delivery, detailed design assurance, and preparation of early works activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Tunnel and Approaches Delivery Partner, with participation in integrated design workshops and providing advice, review and acceptance of submitted deliverables.
  • NEC Project Management and Supervisor duties – Monitoring quality and delivery of the delivery Partner Main Works and early Works.
  • Work collaboratively with third‑party stakeholders & commercial interfaces.
  • Multi‑party collaboration with the Roads Projects, internal programme teams and subject matter experts across the Programme.
  • Address and escalate delivery issues for timely resolution through governance channels.
  • Ensure that all activities are planned and progress is monitored and reported upon.
  • Mentor early career staff, apprentices, graduates and support staff.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in major tunnelling and associated tunnel infrastructure construction delivery, including operations and maintenance.
  • Tunnel asset experience in Tunnel Service Building structures, road deck assurance, diaphragm walls, segmental linings, tunnel openings, in‑situ linings and portal structures.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the construction delivery of major infrastructure programmes, projects, and works.
  • Structures capability from detailed design and/or assurance from major tunnelling projects/programmes.
  • Knowledge of common forms of contracts such as NEC4, Joint Code of Practice (JCOP), BTS Specification 3rd Edition, PRAMS, DMRB.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills – can motivate and liaise with team members and discipline leads to ensure that information is as agreed with client and other stakeholders.
  • Capable of maintaining high performance in challenging environments and working with diverse management styles.
  • Skilled in analytical thinking and problem‑solving using advanced tools and techniques.
  • Microsoft Office skills including Word, PowerPoint and Excel, Power BI.
  • Health, safety and welfare (HSW) – to ensure H&S in own area of work and for the team.
