University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

We are seeking a Band 7 Senior Sister / Charge Nurse to join the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.

This role is only available to internal staff to University Hospital Southampton.

Main Responsibilities

As a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in Cardiac ICU, you will be expected to promote the delivery of a high standard of patient-centered care.

With the support of the Matron you will analyse, monitor, and implement actions that ensure the service delivery is safe and effective in line with the Trust values.

You will be responsible for the daily operational management and service delivery process within the department, along with the line management and development of the nursing team. You will ensure the smooth running of the department, working as a key decision maker alongside the multi professional team, leading on aspects of clinical care, and focusing on patient safety, experience, and quality assurance frameworks.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal skills and show clinical leadership experience. They will be educated to a degree level with evidence of on‑going education and qualifications pertinent to this specialty. They must be able to demonstrate a compassionate approach to the care of patients and the public, whilst also possessing the ability to ensure robust clinical operational demands are met.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Knowledge, And ExperienceEssential criteria

  • 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register
  • Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor
  • Degree or working towards
  • Completion of appropriate specialty Course
  • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice. Supporting a range of learners in practice Supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice
  • Extensive experience in specialty to include considerable experience at Band 6 level
  • Evidence of clinical leadership ability
  • Proven management experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Evidence of utilising evidence in practice

Desirable criteria

  • Management Course (or equivalent)
  • Experience as an NMC sign off mentor or clinical practice assessor
  • Evidence of staff development and succession planning
  • Broad range of post registration experienceExperience of report writing
