Job Details

Armatec is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer (Intermediate level minimum). Applicants must be able to obtain Government Security Clearance.

Location & Compensation

  • Location: Dorchester, ON
  • Work location: On site
  • Salary: $60,000 to $80,000 per year
  • Terms of employment: Full time
  • Start date: As soon as possible

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop designs from concept through to completion, adhering to customer, internal, and applicable standards.
  • Interpret technical requirements and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Prepare models, drawings, plans, designs, calculations, cost estimates, and bills of material.
  • Prototype, test, and ensure production readiness of parts, assemblies, and systems.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams to foster inter‑departmental synergy.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a related field of engineering.
  • Minimum three (3) years of applicable experience.
  • Experience in mechanical component design.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD applications, ideally SolidWorks.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading and creation per ASME Y14.100.
  • Experience with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Proficiency in fundamental design calculations and techniques used in analysis.
  • Technical report writing and presentation experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
  • Ability to travel internationally; must have or be able to obtain a valid passport.
  • Must secure a secret security clearance.

Desirable Skills

  • Finite‑Element Analysis (FEA) simulation.
  • Knowledge of structural metals, welding practices, surface treatments, and relevant test equipment.
  • Project management experience.
  • Manufacturing technologies and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS).
  • Experience with automotive, aerospace & defense standards (ISO 9000, AS9100, ISO/TS 16949, Stanag 4569, ITOP 4‑2‑508).
  • Knowledge of Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and reliability analysis.
  • Advanced fiber‑reinforced plastics (glass, carbon, aramid).

  • Develop designs from concept through to completion, adhering to customer, internal, and other requirements including applicable standards.
  • Interpret technical requirements.
  • Prepare technical documentation.
