If so, we can support you to ’be the nurse leader you’ve always wanted to be’.

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our in‑house Lead Nurse team as we support the planned departure of a colleague. The role is based within our Guildford Hospice, supporting an established in‑house care team.

Shooting Star Children’s Hospices is a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life‑limiting conditions, and their families across London and Surrey.

As well as providing leadership and hands‑on clinical care, we also take time for making memories – supporting children in our hydrotherapy pool, facilitating arts, crafts and music sessions, going on outings and helping children to relax in our multi‑sensory room.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the in‑house care team, providing education and development of staff.
  • Participate in clinical audit, innovation, Clinical Governance and risk groups.
  • Support the hospice 24/7 as required via on‑call rota and provide reasonable share of weekends and public holidays.
  • Ensure safe, effective and efficient delivery of nursing care to babies, children and young people.
  • Coordinate activities such as hydrotherapy, arts, crafts, music sessions and outings.

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse with experience delivering care to life‑limiting children and families.
  • Excellent leadership skills and a passion for influencing and developing a team.
  • Experience in paediatric or complex care settings preferred.
  • Willingness to support on‑call and unsocial hours as required.

Benefits

  • Enhanced remuneration above NHS rates.
  • Geographical allowance and unsocial hours payments.
  • Pension scheme – NHS or stakeholder – up to 7% employer contributions.
  • 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, rising with length of service.
  • 2 weeks paid sabbatical leave after 5, 10 and 15 years of service.
  • Enhanced maternity, adoption and paternity leave pay.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Reimbursed professional membership fees, eye care and blue‑light discount card.
  • Employee Assistance Programme, occupational health and mindfulness sessions.
  • Cycle to work scheme and mental health first aiders.

We are committed to equal opportunities and consider all applicants in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Employment is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS check.
