What does the role involve?
Working within a team environment you’ll utilise your technical expertise to ensure the provision of a multi-disciplinary consultancy service for Sweco’s clients working on the delivery of groundwater resources projects, from aquifer development, management and protection for public and private water supply to EIA and construction support for major infrastructure schemes and local developments.
Examples of projects include:

- Development of private water supplies.
- Supporting major highways schemes, water companies and private developers across the country from preliminary design and EIA stages through to construction, via the design and implementation of groundwater monitoring and testing programmes, groundwater flooding studies, dewatering assessment and permitting.
As a Hydrogeologist you’ll support technical work, including fieldwork, calculations, and the preparation of drawings, sketches and reports. You’ll carry out investigations within agreed timeframes, budgets and client expectations, and develop services within existing clients and cultivate new clients.
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:
- A BSc and preferably a MSc or PhD in hydrogeology or a closely related discipline.
- The desire to work towards achieving chartered membership with a relevant professional body such as the Geological Society or CIWEM.
- Relevant professional experience (no less than 3 years), primarily in water resources hydrogeology, engineering hydrogeology (including dewatering) and environmental impact assessment. Experience in borehole construction, rehabilitation, testing and abandonment is of benefit.
- Strong communication skills, able to interact positively with team members, contractors and clients.
- Proficiency in producing well‑structured reports in clear English, and ability to critically review reports produced by others.
- Ability to maintain good links within the wider groundwater community and build contacts for collaboration or business development.
What’s in it for you?
This is an exciting time to join Sweco. You will learn from experienced people and, as you develop, be given opportunities to work more independently. You will be encouraged to network within the industry and to continue working towards chartership, with Sweco covering up to two professional memberships. The role offers a diverse and exciting workload across a global advisory firm, with flexible working options and growth opportunities.
