Overview
This post leads our Network and Operations Directorate, commanding a team of 300 employees, with responsibility for incident & emergency response (labour, plant & vehicles), network security, scheduling hub and control room. It must strategically consider all incidents and stewardship of the network to continually improve function for its customer.
Key Responsibilities
You will be leading teams responsible for several contractual & performance KPIs including Incident Response (Primary & Secondary), CAT 1 repairs (7 and 28 day), 7-Day Road space Accuracy, and minimising contractual payment penalties.
Four Key Focus Areas
On-road operations
- Leading CPS on-road operations, delivering a safe network for our customers and reliable journey times. Responsibilities include incident & emergency response, emergency repairs, winter gritting decisions and delivery across twenty-seven gritting routes.
Scheduling Hub
- Managing the scheduling of network works, including cyclic, defect management, and emergency works, ensuring the CPS team and supply chain have secure network access. Also responsible for monitoring KPI compliance and risk management.
Control Room
- Operating a 24/7 control room that monitors incidents and traffic activity, liaises with National Highways Control Rooms, manages the chain of command, dispatches resources, and provides insights on network risk and incidents.
Network resilience and security
- Responsible for security and resilience of the network, consulting with stakeholders such as Connect Plus, National Highways and emergency services.
- Investigating criminal offences and collaborating with local police and external agencies, operating security patrols at Dartford Crossing, Dartford cycle services, abnormal loads and dangerous goods movements.
- Managing all vehicles and fleet and delivering on behalf of BBATS under the Operators Licence.
About You
- Leadership in highways operations infrastructure, construction, or a similar industry with transferable expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues and make informed decisions quickly in a fast-paced, reactive environment.
- Strong ability to engage and represent CPS effectively at all levels, including board members, client executives and National Highways executives.
