A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety professional to join a well‑established and highly respected manufacturing business in Bridgwater. Our client is a leading manufacturer of specialist packaging products supplied across Europe. The Role

As the Health & Safety Team Lead, you will play a key role in driving Health, Safety, and Environmental performance across the site. Reporting directly to the Operations Director, you will lead HSE initiatives, ensure legal compliance, promote a proactive safety culture, and support continuous improvement throughout the operation. This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to someone who can influence at all levels, challenge where necessary, and work collaboratively with operational teams to deliver meaningful improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a positive and proactive safety culture across the site
  • Act as the lead for all HSE matters and influence behaviours at all levels
  • Work closely with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to embed HSE into daily operations
  • Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety and environmental legislation
  • Support risk assessments, safe systems of work, and permit‑to‑work processes
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and safety tours, ensuring actions are completed effectively
  • Lead and support incident investigations and root cause analysis and drive corrective and preventative actions
  • Monitor HSE performance data and identify trends for improvement
  • Manage statutory reporting requirements
  • Oversee environmental compliance relating to waste, emissions, and resource usage
  • Support sustainability initiatives and environmental improvement projects
  • Support behavioural safety initiatives and workforce engagement
  • Maintain HSE systems, records, and documentation
  • Support ISO audits and ensure documentation remains compliant and accessible

About You

We are seeking candidates with at least 3 years’ HSE experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment. You will be a confident communicator with a practical, hands‑on approach and the confidence to elevate concerns when required.

  • Proven HSE experience within manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation
  • Experience leading incident investigations and implementing corrective actions
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Health & Safety
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Awareness of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems (Desirable)
  • Experience within plastics, packaging, or food manufacturing (Desirable)
  • Quality leadership experience (Desirable)
