The role

SSE Renewables operates the largest fleet of hydro‑electric power assets across eight hydro schemes in Scotland and offers an Operations Team Leader position at Killin Workshop. The portfolio totals 1,459MW of installed capacity, including pumped storage and flexible hydro.

Responsibilities

  • The day‑to‑day management and supervision of a multi‑disciplined team of craft persons and semi‑skilled staff.
  • Ensuring the safety of the general public, environment, staff and contractors within the area.
  • Coordinating and planning the section workload, utilising a computer‑based maintenance system.
  • Ensuring technical, legislative, environmental and safety standards are met.
  • Managing packages of work.
  • Undertaking authorisation training to perform HV switching, plant operations and isolations plus authorised person duties up to Auxiliary Plant Authorisation under the Hydro System Safety Rules.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a Hydro Generation environment or similar heavy rotating plant.
  • A recognised qualification in an electrical or mechanical discipline is preferred, but more importantly, extensive hands‑on experience in an electrical or mechanical engineering environment is required. The opportunity to work towards an HNC level qualification is available if required.
  • Proven managerial experience with the ability to negotiate and influence with a variety of stakeholders across varying levels of seniority.

Progression is possible by completing the necessary training and assessment process, followed by carrying out the duties and responsibilities of SAP under the Hydro System Safety Rules.

A full and valid UK driving licence is essential for this role, and applicants should ideally reside or be prepared to relocate to or within 30 miles of Killin.
