Role Summary
The post holder will support the Medical Director in providing high-quality palliative care services at the West Midlands Hospice, primarily by providing medical support for a 12-bed in-patient unit and a community team. This role involves participation in training and educational activities and activities relating to maintaining clinical excellence within the service.
Experience in palliative medicine is desirable. There will be ongoing education and supervision for the successful applicant.
Essential Qualifications
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice and at least 4 years of full-time postgraduate training (2 of which must be within relevant acute specialities or equivalent experience and competencies). MB ChB or equivalent.
- Completion of Foundation Training or equivalent and at least 2 further years of full-time postgraduate experience in a recognised training programme (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis).
- Postgraduate experience within the NHS.
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Audit skills.
- Teaching skills.
- Counselling skills that are sensitive to patients and carers.
- Excellent communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- Higher medical qualification, e.g. MRCP, MRCGP.
- Diploma in Palliative Medicine.
- Experience of palliative care provision.
- Knowledge and experience of management of symptoms associated with terminal illnesses, including non‑malignant conditions.
- Research interest.
- Understanding of the management process and issues.
