Specialist Community Dietitian

An exciting opportunity for a dietitian to join our team with experience in community dietetics. The post is permanent and based in Whitehaven, with a caseload of patients requiring enteral feeding support.

The role delivers care to patients of all ages referred by a range of health professionals, supporting the broader team to provide a high‑quality service across North Cumbria.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide comprehensive clinical and educational community dietetic service.
  • Act as specialist source of advice and expertise for nutritional wellbeing, including support, food allergies, gastrointestinal disorders, home enteral feeding, and weight management.
  • Contribute to the development of the Nutrition & Dietetic service as part of the Dietetic team.
  • Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams and supervise student placements.

Job responsibilities

Role includes delivering direct patient care, educational support, and clinical audit as part of an established community dietitians team of 22 professionals.

Person Specification

Knowledge

  • Sound knowledge of current dietary issues.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Knowledge of behavioural change and motivational interviewing.
  • Knowledge and application of NICE guidance in the specialist area.

Experience

  • Recent experience in general clinical dietetics.
  • Experience teaching and training other health professionals.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Reporting on clinical audit.
  • Community dietetics including home enteral feeding.
  • Paediatric experience.

Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification leading to registration in Dietetics (BSc Degree or equivalent).
  • Current Health and Care Professions Council registration.
  • Post‑registration CPD evidence in general clinical dietetics.
  • Membership of a Specialist Interest Group.
  • Supervisory skills for student training.

Skills and Aptitudes

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use and develop diverse approaches to patient care and education.
  • Ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate training to other health professionals.
  • Accurate keyboard skills for data input, word processing, internet, and dietary analysis.
  • Ability to manage own caseload independently.
  • Compassionate approach to dignified care.

Other requirements

  • Able to travel across North Cumbria.
  • Current membership of the British Dietetic Association.
