Overview

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Archaeologist to join our growing team as a Project Officer. This role supports the delivery of archaeological fieldwork and post‑excavation projects across our Land & Nature division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring all work meets Cura Terrae policies and procedures, legal compliance requirements, and professional standards
  • Monitoring project progress against milestones, budgets, and deliverables
  • Preparing and approving risk assessments prior to site activities and promoting a strong health and safety culture
  • Coordinating subcontractors and supporting resource planning
  • Producing archaeological reports, post‑excavation assessments, analysis, and archiving
  • Preparing pre‑commencement documentation, including Written Schemes of Investigation (WSIs)
  • Supervising archaeological teams across small, medium, and large‑scale projects
  • Deputising for Project Managers where required
  • Delivering public lectures, outreach events, and stakeholder engagement activities
  • Transporting teams to site using company pool or hired vehicles
  • Supporting business development and wider operational activities within the Land & Nature division

Qualifications

  • A university degree in Archaeology or a related discipline
  • Accreditation at Associate level or above with the Chartered Institute of Archaeologists (ACIfA–MCIfA), or working towards this
  • Strong experience in archaeological fieldwork and post‑excavation, including reporting, assessment, analysis, and archiving
  • Experience independently preparing WSIs and other project documentation
  • Proven ability to supervise archaeological field teams and manage day‑to‑day site operations
  • Strong organisational and commercial awareness, with the ability to deliver projects to programme and budget
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel and transport teams to site
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
