An exciting opportunity has arisen for band 6 sister/charge nurses on Ward 19.
The successful candidates’ base ward will be Ward 19, with expected work in the Children’s Assessment unit, Children Medical Day unit, and Day Surgery unit as required.
The successful candidates will have clinical credibility, excellent communication and organisational skills, and a positive approach to change. They will assist the Ward Managers in running our Children’s Unit, which consists of a 33‑bedded inpatient ward, an Oncology and Haematology Unit, a Children’s Assessment Unit, two Children’s Outpatient Departments, a Children’s Medical Day Unit, and a Paediatric Day Surgery service.
Responsibilities
- Function as a clinical practitioner within their designated clinical area.
- Deliver direct patient care while coordinating and overseeing nursing practice.
- Be responsible for ensuring the delivery of clinical activities during duty.
- Ensure efficient and effective utilisation of resources to deliver optimum quality care to their client group.
- Deputise for the ward/department manager in their absence, driving forward evidence‑based practice and supervising staff.
Relocation
Our Service will relocate to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in 2028 as part of the Hospital Transformation Programme. This move will bring specialist services together in a modern, purpose‑built facility to improve patient care and team experience. Successful candidates will be expected to move with the Service in early 2028. The relocation will follow a formal management of change process, including full consultation and support for staff.
