Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic clinical or counselling psychologist to work in our Community Mental Health Hub as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary service. The post-holder will work in the north Kensington & Chelsea Mental Health Hub and in the south Hub as required. The post-holder will be the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) lead for the Hub and will also supervise the Complex Emotional Needs (CEN) pathway clinicians. The role will include liaison with the specialist CEN team, known as the Waterview Service. We are looking for a candidate who has completed DBT training and can take up this role as an 8a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or a more junior candidate who has DBT experience and is keen to take up the British Isles DBT Foundation Training and Upgrade Training.
The post-holder will support the team in assessing the psychological and social needs of patients referred to the service, ensuring that psychological needs and factors are given due consideration. They will provide a range of specialist psychological assessment and therapy for clients with complex and enduring mental health problems and lead on and coordinate aspects of the group programme under the Hubs, including the DBT programme for clients with complex emotional needs. The candidate will offer advice, training and consultation to other members of the team and non-professional carers.
The post-holder will work primarily in north Kensington and Chelsea Mental Health Hub and in the south Hub as required. They will dedicate the equivalent of one day per week to leading the Complex Emotional Needs pathway across the north and south hubs. They will also provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy for clients with complex mental health problems and aspects of the psychosocial group programme within the Hub. The candidate will be expected to offer advice, training, and consultation to other members of the team and non-professional carers.
Responsibilities
- Attend weekly psychology and wider MDT team meetings and case discussion forums to facilitate gold standard service provision.
- Manage referrals and planning of clinical care.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of effective recovery-oriented treatment models.
- Promote optimal use of psychological therapy resources to ensure they are widely accessible and offered in a timely manner.
- Support the team in assessing the psychological and social needs of patients referred to the service.
- Lead the Hub DBT offer and provide clinical supervision to the Hub CEN workers.
- Oversee the Hub CEN offer.
Requirements and Work Arrangements
- B. Sc. or equivalent in psychology and eligibility for British Psychological Society registration; completed DBT training; or DBT experience with intent to undertake further DBT training.
- Based across the Mental Health Hub sites in North Kensington & Chelsea with travel to the South Hub as required.
- Flexible working pattern; may require work in other settings including day centres, GP surgeries, community service bases, inpatient wards and patients’ homes.
- Vaccination encouragement in line with NHS trust policy.
Clinical Duties
- Provide specialist psychological assessments based on the integration of data from psychological assessments, neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, observations and interviews.
- Formulate and implement plans for formal psychological treatment and/or management of mental health problems across care settings.
- Deliver a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups; lead and supervise the Hub DBT offer and supervise the Hub CEN workers.
- Evaluate treatment options considering theoretical and therapeutic models and complex historical/developmental factors.
- Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment and discharge of clients within standard care plans.
- Provide psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing to client formulations and treatment plans.
- Contribute to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care across settings and agencies; undertake risk assessment and management; communicate progress to clients and teams.
Teaching, Training, and Supervision
- Receive regular clinical professional supervision and DBT supervision; participate in DBT consult.
- Develop and provide post-qualification teaching, training and supervision to MDT staff and supervise trainee and assistant clinical psychologists.
- Contribute to pre- and post-qualification teaching of clinical and/or counselling psychology; provide advice and training across agencies and settings.
Management, Policy, and Service Development
- Contribute to development, evaluation and monitoring of the team’s policies and services through research and audit.
- Advise management on psychological and organisational matters; manage workloads of assistant and trainee clinical psychologists.
- Participate in shortlisting and interviewing of assistant/graduate psychologists as appropriate.
Research and IT Responsibilities
- Use theory and evidence-based literature to support practice; undertake research and provide advice to colleagues conducting research.
- Lead or participate in project management, audits and service evaluations.
- Maintain professional records, enter data onto IT systems, and use IT to access information and communicate with colleagues.
General
- Maintain high professional standards and ongoing CPD; stay engaged with current developments in clinical psychology.
- Maintain high standards of clinical record keeping and adherence to professional codes of practice.
- Keep up-to-date knowledge of legislation and local policies relevant to the client group and mental health.
