Surgical Specialist – Spinal Fellow

  • Location: London, The Princess Grace Hospital.

  • Hours: Full or Part Time Hours available.

  • Shifts: Days: 9:00am – 5:00pm / Monday – Friday.

  • Contract Type: Permanent

This fellowship is overseen by Mr Sean Molloy at Princess Grace Hospital, HCA Healthcare UK, and is designed for a senior spinal surgical trainee seeking advanced exposure to complex spinal surgery, including deformity correction (adult and paediatric), navigation-assisted procedures, and revision surgeries.

There is extensive exposure to anterior spinal surgical exposures and fusion techniques. The fellow will work alongside a team of up to 8 specialist spinal consultants from both orthopaedic and neurosurgery, actively engaged in clinical practice and collaborative research.

The spinal unit is very busy and the successful candidate will have extensive experience in treating complex spinal disorders at the end of the fellowship, and will be well equipped to take up a consultant job.

This successful person will be assisting My Sean Molloy in theatre, assisting in his clinics and doing post‑op reviews on the ward with and sometimes on behalf of Mr Molloy.

Clinical Work (85%)

  • Manage a wide range of spinal conditions including: Paediatric and adult spinal deformities, lumbar and cervical degenerative disorders, complex primary and revision surgeries (anterior and posterior approaches).
  • Participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, clinics, and surgical procedures.
  • Engage in pre‑operative planning and post‑operative care.

Research (15%)

  • Undertake a primary research project.
  • Participate in journal clubs and literature reviews.
  • Aim to publish at least one paper in a peer‑reviewed journal.

Personal Specification

  • ALS (or equivalent) current certificates
  • GMC Registration
  • Safeguarding trained to level 3 Adult
  • Specialist areas of training/knowledge required: Surgical training and Spinal experience.
  • Competent unsupervised to complete the following procedures: Chest drain insertion

The post is initially for 12 months.

The job plan is flexible and can be tailored according to the candidate’s research/clinical needs.
