The Role
Sirius Digital is a rapidly growing software and data science consultancy that delivers high‑quality end‑to‑end solutions across defence, energy, transport and health sectors.
As a Principal Software Engineer you will develop software for Software Modelling & Simulation, autonomy and geospatial fields, provide technical insight and lead projects.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and deliver software solutions using a range of techniques including wargames, modelling and simulation, robotic and autonomous systems, digital twins and synthetic environments.
- Apply mathematical and computational methods to real‑world problems and develop novel approaches where required.
- Deliver technical consulting projects and products, with the opportunity to lead some of them.
- Build and maintain customer relationships.
Essential Qualifications
- At least 15 years of experience designing and implementing high‑performance software applications.
- Ability to apply mathematical principles or statistical approaches to solve problems in scientific or applied fields.
- Proficiency in C/C++ or C# and Python.
- Demonstrable stakeholder management skills, including influencing, negotiating and conflict management.
- Experience writing proposals and coordinating bid management activity.
- Line management experience and the ability to enable people to perform.
- Extensive experience with software modelling and simulation techniques.
- Ability to use case and project data context to determine specifications and requirements.
- Experience in one or more of the following disciplines: videogame engine technology (e.g. Unreal Engine, Godot); entity‑based simulation; robotics and autonomous systems.
- Understanding of varied codebases and confidence in making changes to large projects.
- Understanding of performance and hardware constraints.
- Experience building customer and stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to support and lead the authoring of technical reports and present them to customers.
- Willingness to travel across the UK and work at client sites for periods.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience working with Defence Digital, DE&S, Dstl, Frontline Commands or the UK defence industry.
- Degree‑level education or equivalent relevant experience.
- A strong STEM or computing background.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

- Candidates must be willing to undergo an internal baseline personnel security standard check before starting.
