Role Summary
The Quality Engineer will support the design, manufacture, and delivery of aerospace products by developing, implementing, and improving quality systems, processes, and tools. This role acts as a key technical resource for product and process quality, ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and industry requirements, while driving defect prevention, variation reduction, and continuous improvement across the value stream.
Role & Responsibilities
- Support product and process quality activities across the value stream, ensuring compliance to AS9100, AS13100, ISO9001, customer, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct Layered Process Audits, product and process audits, and review First Article Inspection Reports to AS9102.
- Lead containment, root cause analysis, and corrective actions using methodologies such as 8D, A3, and 5 Why.
- Maintain, analyse, and improve key quality metrics including First Pass Yield, defect rates, audit findings, RPPM, and cost of poor quality.
- Support incoming quality activities to ensure materials meet specifications and collaborate with suppliers to improve performance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including Zero Defect activity, Kaizen events, and process capability improvements.
- Work closely with internal teams, customers, suppliers, regulators, and auditors to resolve quality issues and maintain compliance.
Requirements of the Role
- The successful Quality Engineer will have working knowledge of Part 21 Subpart G, ISO9001, AS9100, and AS9102, with the ability to interpret regulations, technical specifications, and engineering drawings.
- A relevant engineering or technical degree, or an aircraft technician or maintenance engineer qualification with acceptable additional education.
- Experience within the aeronautical industry or a similar industry/field.
- Strong experience in problem resolution tools and methods such as 8D, A3, Root Cause Analysis, 5 Why, Cause and Effect, and Design of Experiments.
- Proficiency in APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, Control Plans, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Proven experience in continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.
- SAP or similar MRP system experience and good IT literacy.
- Strong organisational, communication, influencing, and leadership skills, with a hands-on and customer-focused approach.
