Overview
STRABAG UK’s Infrastructure Division is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Senior Buyer to support the successful delivery of major infrastructure projects across the UK. Operating within a fast-paced, multi-project environment, the role will take responsibility for strategic sourcing, procurement and supply chain management of plant, equipment and construction materials, ensuring best value, programme certainty and compliance across all project operations.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with project teams, suppliers and key stakeholders to drive procurement performance and develop supplier relationships.
- Support STRABAG UK’s commitment to safety, sustainability, quality and operational excellence.
- Bring strong negotiation skills and infrastructure sector experience to manage complex procurement activities across multiple live projects.
- Contribute to the wider commercial and procurement strategy of the business.
Requirements
- Demonstrate comprehensive material and plant product and supply chain knowledge.
- Provide a comprehensive material and plant procurement service for all projects.
- Deliver a consistent procurement approach across all projects within the regional operating unit from work winning to pre‑construction stage.
- Demonstrate best overall value for money in procurement recommendations.
- Ensure a robust negotiation process is applied in the engagement process.
- Ensure contract arrangements and package details protect the business in its dealings with suppliers and sub‑contractors.
- Contribute to Strabag leverage at every opportunity.
- Ensure decisions are based on overall best value, not just lowest price.
- Develop an accredited and structured supply chain aligned to the regional operating unit demand and overall Strabag strategy.
- Monitor the marketplace for pricing trends, risks and opportunities.
- Continuously seek out and assess new supply‑chain members to meet project demand.
- Monitor the supply chain performance, workload and financial status to protect the corporate position.
- Develop supply‑chain, product and innovation initiatives that bring cost and/or buildability benefits.
- Actively contribute to future development of Strabag procurement strategy.
- Ensure compliance with procurement process, procedures and company ethics.
- Ensure implementation of National/Regional agreements across all projects within the regional operating unit.
Qualifications
- Experience within construction/engineering or a similar background.
- Proven buying experience, particularly knowledge of plant and materials buying.
- Detailed knowledge of work practices, processes and procedures within the construction process from pre‑construction to construction stage.
- Experience with tendering process.
- Good existing business network and relationships with the supply chain.
- Good knowledge of safety within procurement practices.
- MS Office package knowledge (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio, MS Project).
Desired
- Good knowledge of sustainability within procurement practices.
- CIPS qualification.
- Experience of running supply chain events.
