Refrigeration Design Engineer

As HVAC & Refrigeration Design Engineer, you will work across the design and development of refrigeration systems for a growing SME that manufactures bespoke equipment. The role focuses on low batch projects across a range of design, development and quality activities.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop refrigeration systems and bespoke engineering equipment.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Perform thermodynamic calculations and system simulations.
• Select appropriate components (compressors, heat exchangers, expansion devices, refrigerants).
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., PED, CE marking, safety regulations).
• Build and test prototypes, analysing performance and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles and thermodynamics.
• Experience in the design of HVAC&R or thermofluid systems.
• Knowledge of heat transfer and fluid flow principles.
• Experience in product development or system design.
• Experience designing systems in accordance with relevant safety and regulatory standards.
• Practically minded, happy to run tests and retain hands‑on engineering elements.

• Flexible salary rate to match the level of experience you bring.

Salary: c£45,000 guide. Days based role – 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday – Thursday, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm Friday. Overtime paid at 1.5× after 37 hours per week.

Job commutable from Nottingham, Beeston, Long Eaton.
