Job Description:

We are recruiting for a full‑time Locally Employed Doctor to join our ARMS (At Risk Mental State) Service based at the Slade Hospital Site for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract from August 2026 to August 2027. The role provides clinical support for our community‑based specialist service for individuals at clinical high risk for psychosis. The service offers early detection, assessment, and intervention for young people and adults aged 14‑35 years through different pathways including Early Intervention Service (EIS), CAMHS and Adult Mental Health Teams. The team receives approximately 2‑3 referrals per week that are assessed using the Comprehensive Assessment of At‑Risk Mental States (CAARMS).

Responsibilities

  • Support the consultant and team in providing assessment and treatment under supervision to patients.
  • Complete comprehensive assessments including the use of structured interviews, standardised scales, and cognitive assessments.
  • Provide diagnosis, formulation and ongoing medical management for young people referred to OPEN ARMS, including prescribing and physical health monitoring under consultant supervision.
  • Conduct audit with Consultant supervision related to the further development of the service.
  • Produce clinical reports and maintain clinical databases.
  • Explain treatment options to patients and carers.
  • Communicate with GPs, CAMHS and AMHT teams.
  • Assess capacity and ability to consent.
  • Play a key role in the management of transitions to first‑episode psychosis and liaise with the Early Intervention Service.
  • Support the service to meet national standards and contribute to Oxford Health’s role as a centre of excellence for the early detection of psychosis, including innovation such as digital detection and experimental therapeutics.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration.
  • At least two years of full‑time postgraduate training experience.
  • Experience working in high‑risk mental health or early intervention settings is desirable.
