Sex and Relationship Psychosexual Psychotherapist Team Leader

This position is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and progressive Psychosexual Service providing excellent therapeutic intervention to the residents of Lancashire and Blackpool.
Main duties of the job
Formulate a clear job plan combining therapeutic client work and clinical supervision, with dedicated time for leadership and managerial responsibilities. 50% of the role is direct team management and service development.
Job responsibilities
- Act as an expert practitioner in Psychosexual Therapy.
- Maintain a defined caseload, reporting to the Principal Therapist.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary colleagues to provide efficient, high‑quality care for clients referred into the service.
- Maintain a high standard of personal clinical practice and receive regular supervision as specified by COSRT.
- Contribute to maintaining a positive and efficient service waiting list.
- Provide evidence of effective service delivery through ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and key performance indicators.
- Support the governance and quality improvement agenda, embedding supervision and CQC standards and regulations.
- Provide leadership, advice, consultancy, teaching and training to colleagues within and outside the Trust.
- Contribute to the development of policies, procedures and protocols in clinical practice and service management.
- Support the Head of Service in budgetary management within set parameters.
- Adhere to Trust clinical and management policies and procedures.
- Support innovation and change within clinical practice in line with Trust requirements and emerging national priorities.
- Ensure all clinical interventions are evidence based and clinically effective.
- Plan, provide and evaluate interventions for complex patients, including rationale for decision making.
- Promote customer care concepts and challenge performance or interactions that fail to deliver quality service.
- Act as a role model for the service, representing the Trust’s goals and values.
- Comply with training to identify and manage risk, including safeguarding concerns.
- Maintain personal professional registration and pursue continuous professional development in accordance with COSRT mandate.
Person Specification
Qualifications and experience required include:
- Postgraduate qualification in Sex and Relationship Therapy awarded from a COSRT accredited course.
- Experience of managerial responsibilities at staff and/or service level.
- Qualification or extensive experience in clinical supervision.
- Comprehensive understanding of presenting psychosexual and relationship issues and history of direct client contact.
- Strong understanding of physiological and psychological sexual disorders and ability to develop evidence‑based care frameworks.
- Expertise in confidentiality, safeguarding, and practice integration.
- Experience assessing and triaging psychosexual referrals.
- Experience working with a diverse client group and in multidisciplinary settings.
- Experience applying research‑based knowledge to practice.
- Experience in policy development and implementation.
- Previous experience within an NHS/healthcare setting.
- Experience contributing to service development, audit, and outcome measures.
- Experience in managing operational change processes.
- Capability in caseload management, reducing waiting lists, and compliance with CQC requirements.
- Recognised management qualification or at least two years of management experience.
- Awareness of current financial landscape in healthcare provision.
- Use of service user outcomes and feedback to drive change.
Supervisory Experience
- Registered or accredited psychosexual supervisor.
- Background in nursing or medical qualification (preferred).
