Responsibilities

Peer Support Facilitators will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to service users to regain control over their lives and unique recovery process. They will work alongside service users through their recovery journey, engaging in 1:1 and group sessions, and supporting development of pre‑vocational skills.

Other duties include:

  • Providing peer support in a compassionate, supportive manner and encouraging active participation.
  • Delivering pre‑vocational interventions to increase confidence, work ability, develop a daily routine and engage in opportunities that assist recovery.
  • Using lived experience to bring hope, raise aspirations and promote recovery among service users and team colleagues.
  • Working collaboratively with other colleagues within the team.

Qualifications and Personal Qualities

Personal qualities ideal for the role include:

  • Empathic understanding of service users’ experience when admitted to a mental health inpatient unit.
  • Ability to encourage participation, good communication skills, or willingness to develop these.
  • Ability to listen without bias and to objectively see both sides of an issue.
  • Ability to give feedback in a constructive manner.
  • Ability to use lived experience positively and appropriately, with an awareness of one’s own personal recovery journey.
