The Role

We are looking for a confident and hands‑on Team Leader to join our Fibre Department in Chatteris. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who can lead from the front, use their initiative and create a positive and supportive team culture while ensuring high standards are maintained across the department.
As Team Leader, you will play a key role in the day‑to‑day running of the Fibre Department, helping the team deliver accurate, timely and high‑quality results in a busy, high‑throughput setting. You will provide clear direction, support the team with practical problem solving and help ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with laboratory and quality requirements. This role is ideal for someone with previous commercial laboratory experience who is an effective people leader, thrives under pressure and is passionate about supporting others, maintaining standards and driving continuous improvement.
About The Position
Shift: Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 18:30
Salary: £29,366

Contract: Full‑time and Permanent
The Day to Day
- Leading the day‑to‑day operation of the Fibre Department, providing clear and visible leadership and supporting the team to deliver work efficiently and to a high standard.
- Using your initiative to respond to changing priorities, resolve issues effectively and support the smooth running of the department throughout the shift.
- Planning and coordinating workload in line with testing priorities, due dates and available resources, while ensuring compliance with internal processes and laboratory standards.
- Managing staff rotas, holiday cover and overtime, while supporting day‑to‑day people matters including return‑to‑work meetings and performance discussions.
- Overseeing routine equipment checks and department readiness, including daily balance and sieve calibrations, while monitoring consumables and storage areas.
- Driving high standards of training by ensuring learning is delivered effectively and recorded accurately, with AllStar learning and training folders kept fully up to date.
- Supporting audits, investigations and corrective actions, while promoting a clean, safe and compliant working environment and a positive and supportive team culture.
The Essentials
- You have demonstrable experience leading a laboratory team, ideally within a commercial, high‑volume laboratory environment.
- You are a strong team leader who can motivate others, provide clear direction and help create a positive and supportive team culture.
- You thrive in a busy environment and are confident managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
- You are a proactive problem‑solver who can remain calm under pressure and support your team through challenges.
- You are confident with scheduling, resource planning and monitoring team performance.
- You have a strong understanding of laboratory procedures, quality systems and equipment maintenance.
- You are an effective communicator with a supportive, hands‑on leadership style and a genuine passion for developing others.
