Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist – ESD and Neuro Locality Services

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed individual to take a lead clinical role in the management of our community stroke team and outpatient neurological rehabilitation service.

Our community stroke team and outpatient neurological rehabilitation service are well established, providing multi-disciplinary neuro-rehabilitation to people with neurological injuries across the north and east of Hertfordshire. Neuropsychology is well integrated within these services and assessments and interventions are conducted as part of holistic and goal orientated rehabilitation.

The post holder manages the neuropsychology provision across these services and also takes an active role in developing the service as an integral part of the management team.

Main duties of the job

The main duties include, but are not limited to:

Provision of clinical management to clinical psychologists, trainees and students working within the community stroke team and outpatient neurological rehabilitation service.

Supervision delivery in line with HCPC and BPS guidelines.

Participation at MDT meetings to incorporate neuropsychology input into integrated patient care.

Representation of neuropsychology views and needs in management meetings.

Service audit and evaluation framework, to align with SSNAP, local quality requirements and ICSS national model.

Direct clinical input (assessment and intervention) for complex neurological patients within inpatient and community settings.

Links with the University of Hertfordshire and trainee development.

The successful applicant will be joining a friendly and supportive team of clinical psychologists & neuropsychologists embedded within multi-disciplinary teams in East and North Hertfordshire. There are clear structures in place to support and fund your CPD and supervision needs. We are funding and supporting our basic band psychologists through training to become neuropsychologists via QiCN and the University route. We have well established links with the University of Hertfordshire and provide regular placements for clinical psychologists in training. We meet regularly as a team for journal clubs, team meetings and learning events. We engage and promote involvement in clinical audit and research projects.

Neuropsychology is well respected within the Hertfordshire Neurological Rehabilitation Service and the successful applicant will benefit from joint working with other experienced clinicians (OT, Physio, SLT, Nursing) in the management and running of the services.

Qualifications

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or overseas) as accredited by HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council).
  • Formal BPS training in supervision of other psychologists.

Registration with HCPC as a clinical/counselling psychologist

  • Registration number with valid license
  • Full registration with the BPS as a Clinical Neuropsychologist

Experience

  • Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical/counselling psychologist for a minimum of five years with at least 3 years post qualification experience within the specialty where the post is held.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in‑patient and residential care settings.
  • Experience maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Experience of working with patients with physical health problems who present with highly complex problems as the result of the interaction between medical, psychological and social factors.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for patients’ psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
  • Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi‑disciplinary care.
  • Experience of assessing and treating patients across a full range of care settings.
  • Experience of providing teaching, training and/or clinical supervision.
  • Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the patient group.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology including highly developed knowledge of developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, and two or more psychological therapies.

Training

  • Post‑qualification training in clinical neuropsychology, or in the process of obtaining this (BPS QiCN).
  • Post‑doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice, in addition to post‑doctoral Neuropsychology training.

Extra

  • Record of having published in professional journals and /or books.
