You’ll become a key member of a supportive, forward‑thinking service, delivering Occupational Therapy across a variety of settings:
- Working with inpatients receiving specialist palliative care
- Assessing outpatients in our multidisciplinary palliative care clinic
- Visiting palliative care patients in their own homes to provide truly person‑centred care
Your work will span the full Liverpool region, so a driving licence and access to an appropriately insured vehicle are essential.
Main duties of the job
This position is ideal for someone with a passion for palliative care. Experience with chronic respiratory disease or cardiothoracic oncology would be advantageous, but a commitment to delivering high‑quality, compassionate care is essential.
You’ll work closely with an experienced palliative care MDT and be co‑located with our inpatient Occupational Therapy team, ensuring seamless collaboration and shared learning. Regular peer supervision and strong team support will help you settle in quickly and continue developing your clinical skills.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As the Palliative Care OT, you’ll contribute to research, teaching and service development. Experience in presenting or teaching would be beneficial.
- Provide Occupational Therapy to patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Deliver home visits to palliative care patients.
- Assist in the development and delivery of evidence‑based interventions.
- Support training and workload management for junior staff and students.
- Participate in service development initiatives and audits.
- Maintain professional records and electronic patient documentation.
This is a 22.5 hour post, with Tuesdays and Fridays required.

Qualifications and experience
- Diploma, Degree or MSc in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- Evidence of specialist postgraduate learning
- Membership of relevant specialist interest groups
- Advanced communication skills training
Knowledge & experience
- NHS experience at band 6 level, including palliative care settings
- Evidence of recent CPD and attendance at relevant courses
- Knowledge of the MDT and its contributions to patient care
- Experience supervising and developing junior staff and/or students
- Participation in service development and audit
- Previous cardiothoracic experience
- Holistic approach aligned with varying needs of palliative care patients

Working conditions
- Band 7, NHS AfC, 22.5 hours per week (permanent, part‑time)
