The Role
The Senior Engineer will provide site engineering duties across several projects in the region, supervising trainees and site engineers. The role includes establishing level and survey control for contracts, setting out detailed works according to contract drawings, and ensuring regular checks and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Site Engineer
- Establish level and survey control for contracts; hand over to Site Engineers for daily setting out activities.
- Set out detailed works as per contract drawings and ensure regular checks; support Site Engineers in understanding requirements.
- Be present for critical setting out activities.
- Ensure health and safety records are complete, accurate and comply with organisational and legal requirements.
- Deliver work safely, without environmental incidents, and to specified quality without defects.
- Assist the Site Agent/Sub Agent in developing efficient work methods and techniques.
- Act as deputy for the Sub/Site Agent where required.
- Handle materials procurement: undertake pre-start material take-offs and populate procurement schedules.
Managing Quality
- Carry out instrumental checks according to agreed guidelines and schedule.
- Complete records of quality audits following agreed procedures and timescales.
- Provide feedback to the Site Agent/Sub Agent on corrective actions needed.
- Compile ITPs and Quality Management Plans; lead for the Region.
- Brief ITPs to the Site Teams before delivery.
Managing Resources
- Ensure availability of resources that meet Barhale’s and the client’s requirements for quality, quantity, and prompt delivery.
- Deal with any resource problems promptly, liaising with the Site Agent as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of resources.
- Organise and conduct toolbox talks.
- Prepare and issue method statements.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships among operatives, staff, clients, contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors; attend design meetings supporting PMs.
- Act as line manager for engineers, supporting their development and growth.
- Participate in recruitment of new Site Engineers.
Managing Information
- Engage early with SE on project awards, tender handover meetings, and pre-commencement meetings.
- Obtain all ‘as-built’ information that is accurate and relevant.
- Record, store, and maintain records and correspondence in line with organisational and legal requirements; plan at least two months before project completion for handover of as-built and QA information.
About you
Essential
- Previous experience setting out on civil engineering projects, including highways, infrastructure, and reinforced concrete works.
- Degree/HNC or equivalent in civil engineering.
- CSCS card.
- SMSTS.
- Confined space training.
- Experience using AutoCAD.
- Ability to manage and deliver a project with minimal guidance.
- Experience running reports and ensuring accurate record keeping.
- Effective working both individually and as a team member.
- Strong communication with client representatives, site team, and operatives.
- Ability to challenge designs and resolve problems to a conclusion.
