Locum ENT Consultant with Special interest in Laryngology/Voice
Applications are invited for the above post to join our expanding ENT team. This is a new post and the successful candidate’s subspecialty interest in Otology/Balance or Laryngology/Voice will complement the department’s needs and future plans. The appointee will join the existing 15 consultants. An on‑call commitment will be required.
Main duties of the job
- Supervise and train junior medical staff.
- Shared responsibility for beds on wards 9, Day ward, the Kinmonth Unit and paediatric wards at LRI; responsible for beds on Medical Day Case Unit at LGH.
- Attend clinical sessions as laid out in the job plan.
- Engage in teaching, research and administration.
- Develop the ENT service in partnership with other UHL consultants.
- Participate in the adult and paediatric on‑call rota.
- Undertake managerial duties associated with patient care and running the Clinical Department.
Job responsibilities
Adult ENT patients at LRI are managed on Ward 9; the Kinmonth Unit provides high‑dependency care for airway patients and those undergoing head and neck surgery. The department operates 35 inpatient and day‑case operating lists with dedicated paediatric theatres, and an outpatient department supported by audiology. The East Midlands Planned Care Centre hosts additional theatres, recovery beds and a medical day‑case unit. ENT supports community clinics and a busy children’s and adults’ emergency department. Full GMC registration is required.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
- MB BS or equivalent.
- Full GMC registration.
- Fully accredited for Higher Specialist Training or eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of interview.
- FRCS(ORL‑HNS) or equivalent.
- Current BLS certification.
- Membership of relevant specialist societies or associations.
- Higher degree, e.g., MSc, MD or equivalent.
Experience and Clinical Skills
- Fully trained in otolaryngology and paediatric surgery.
- Excellent clinical skills covering all aspects of the Job Plan.
- Ability to apply sound clinical judgment.
- Clear logical and analytical thinking.
- Willingness to develop skills and experience in areas of interest.
- Evidence of clinical or research commitment and relevant specialty interest.
- Fellowship in otology or laryngology/voice.
