Assistant Project Manager – Nuclear
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of valves contracts within a major nuclear new build environment. This role is ideal for someone with experience in mechanical equipment packages — particularly valves — who is ready to take the next step in project delivery.
You will work alongside senior project managers, engineering teams, quality specialists, and supply chain partners to ensure valves packages progress through design, procurement, manufacturing, qualification, and delivery stages in line with nuclear safety and regulatory expectations.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to deepen their technical and project management experience within a high‑profile nuclear programme.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Assistant Project Manager will include:
- Support the management of valves contracts, ensuring progress against scope, schedule, cost, and quality expectations.
- Assist with supplier surveillance activities, including monitoring design, procurement, manufacturing, testing, and qualification deliverables.
- Contribute to the authoring and maintenance of technical contract specifications.
- Support configuration management, technical interfaces, and change control processes.
- Assist in managing the qualification of valves, ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
- Help track, manage, and close technical Open Points impacting contract delivery.
- Gather and share supplier feedback, lessons learned, and improvement actions with project stakeholders.
- Support the qualification activities for new valve suppliers entering nuclear programmes.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, quality, and project controls teams to maintain alignment across workstreams.
- Prepare documentation, reports, and updates for internal and external stakeholders.
- Monitor risks, issues, and opportunities, escalating where appropriate.
Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:
- Experience in a project delivery, package engineering, or assistant project management role within nuclear or another highly regulated industry – Hinkley Point C experience is preferred
- Exposure to valves packages or similar high‑integrity mechanical equipment.
- Understanding of engineering, manufacturing, and quality processes for mechanical components.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams.
- Confident communicator with the ability to engage suppliers, engineers, and stakeholders.
- A proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and develop within a complex project environment.
- Awareness of project controls principles including schedule, cost, risk, and change management.
- Reside locally to Bridgwater or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).
