The Opportunity

Senior Underwriter – Onshore Energy. Join our Onshore Energy team and work within a global underwriting portfolio, writing international business across company and Lloyd’s platforms. You will develop and manage broker relationships, underwrite profitable business across a broad onshore energy and heavy industry risk profile, and contribute to the evolution of our global appetite. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced underwriter – or a broker who has transitioned into underwriting – to step into a visible, influential role within a collaborative, high‑performing team.

Your new role

  • Perform complex underwriting activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the development of the annual business plan for the portfolio and ensure its delivery.
  • Contribute to team and portfolio meetings to share and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency.
  • Apply reinsurance requirements appropriately to manage exposure and support business plan objectives.
  • Act as a technical referral point, identifying underwriting issues and opportunities within the Onshore Energy portfolio.
  • Establish and strengthen strong relationships with brokers, customers, business partners and internal stakeholders to maximise influence and achieve business objectives.
  • Contribute to portfolio review and analysis to assess performance against underwriting and profitability targets.
  • Support aggregate management and peer review processes to promote underwriting excellence and consistency.

About You

  • Proven underwriting capability within general property, heavy industry or energy‑related insurance environment, with hands‑on decision‑making experience.
  • Strong market‑facing skills, with the ability to build credibility and trusted relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • Sound technical understanding of policy wordings, relevant regulations and market dynamics within property and energy classes.
  • Experience underwriting complex risks and contributing to portfolio management within a commercial insurance setting.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data and insight to identify profitable opportunities and support underwriting decisions.
  • Confident negotiator with the judgement to balance commercial outcomes and risk discipline.
  • A collaborative mindset, comfortable working within a global team structure and contributing to shared underwriting goals.
