Role: Court of Protection Solicitor– Deputyship Team
A Leading law firm is looking to recruit a dedicated and experienced Court of Protection Solicitor for a highly sought permanent position.

Department Background
The client’s Court of Protection finance team acts as professional deputy, managing the financial affairs of many vulnerable clients. Clients are referred by the Office of the Public Guardian to Philippa Barton as panel deputy, and by litigation teams acting for incapacitated clients who have recovered damages awards.
The deputyship team handles day‑to‑day management of our clients’ finances including building good relationships with clients, handling one‑off payment requests, making applications to the court, managing building projects, tax, and insurance issues, and completing OPG reports. The team also assists clients applying to be appointed as lay deputy and deals with probate matters.
The team is fast‑growing, highly active, works closely together, and prioritises high‑level client care and efficient service.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Report directly to the Department Director
- Take a professional, proactive approach with strong client‑care skills
- Assist with Court of Protection matters including day‑to‑day management of deputyship files and other Court of Protection applications
- Update accounts and complete OPG reports
- Instruct assessors and financial advisors
- Draft trust deeds
- Handle correspondence
- Maintain accurate time‑costing procedures
- Implement supervisor recommendations following monthly file reviews, ensuring prompt action
- Ensure compliance with file‑management procedures
Skills and Qualifications
Required:
- Professional experience in property and affairs deputyship work
- Law degree
- Clear knowledge of Court of Protection practice and the Mental Capacity Act 2005
- Business acumen and ability to market the firm
- Excellent communication skills for working with different people
- Strong analytical and organisational skills, initiative and knowing when to seek guidance
- Team‑player, self‑motivated and professional attitude
- IT skills – proficient with Microsoft Office applications and document‑management systems
