Financial Controller | London Market Insurance | Hybrid | £130-150k + Bonus

A leading London Market insurer is seeking a Financial Controller to lead its Financial Accounting & Reporting function. This is a senior role with broad ownership across statutory, management, and group reporting, financial controls, regulatory submissions, and insurance/reinsurance accounting.

You will report directly to the CFO and play a key part in shaping the finance control framework, driving reporting quality, and supporting strategic decision-making across the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead monthly management accounts, variance analysis, and financial commentary.
  • Present monthly results to senior finance and executive committees.
  • Oversee month-end close, financial ledgers, and core accounting controls.
  • Take ownership of insurance and reinsurance accounting, including debtor and creditor reconciliations.
  • Lead statutory accounts preparation under FRS 102 and FRS 103.
  • Manage external audit delivery and act as the main finance contact for auditors.
  • Prepare quarterly IFRS 17 results for head office reporting.
  • Support reforecasting and conversion of business plans to an IFRS 17 basis.
  • Work closely with actuarial teams on reserving, IBNR, and technical provisions.
  • Oversee Solvency UK and other regulatory submissions.
  • Maintain a strong internal control framework and support finance transformation projects.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing finance team.

About you:

  • Qualified accountant, ideally ACA, ACCA, or CIMA.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in financial reporting and control.
  • Strong insurance or London Market background is essential.
  • Good knowledge of IFRS, IFRS 17, and Solvency UK.
  • Experience working with actuarial teams and regulatory reporting.
  • Confident communicator who can present to senior stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership ability with a collaborative and improvement-focused approach.
