Chemotherapy Sister/Charge Nurse

Job Summary
Work as a Charge Nurse/Ward Sister on a full‑time basis in the chemotherapy unit providing holistic care to haematology/oncology patients receiving SACT.
Main Duties
- Manage the daily operations of the chemotherapy unit, working alongside another Sister/Charge Nurse.
- Lead and support a core group of nurses and oversee all staff in the unit.
- Maintain clinical competency and uphold high standards of patient care.
- Develop and implement service improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (Adult).
- Minimum 60 credits of Level 3 education, including 45 specialist haematology or cancer nursing credits.
- Teaching qualification or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or currently studying toward a degree.
Experience
- Minimum four years of relevant clinical experience in cancer care, with at least two years at Band 6.
Patient Care
- Advanced chemotherapy and IV administration skills.
- Competence in cannulation, venepuncture, and blood product management.
- Ability to educate patients and act as a patient educator.
- Clinical management experience.
Desirable
- Extended roles such as prescribing.
- Central line placement.
Skills & Abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Patient advocacy and education.
- Leadership of nursing team.
- Teaching and supervising within the specialty.
- Commitment to research, evidence‑based practice, audit and quality issues.
- Risk management participation and practice innovation.
- Computer literacy.
