Data Engineer – Nuclear
As a Data Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and building data pipelines that support high‑value analytics and reporting across nuclear programmes and their supply chains. You will work to align upstream data engineering and integration activities with downstream data consumers, including analysts, BI developers, and operational teams.
Reporting to the Head of IT within the IT & Data Management function, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver scalable, high‑quality data products that enable informed decision‑making and drive operational excellence.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Data Engineer will include:
- Engage with business stakeholders to understand downstream analytics and reporting needs.
- Scope, design, and deliver effective analytics data products that meet business requirements.
- Work as part of a cross‑functional data team to deliver end‑to‑end data solutions, including architecture, engineering, and integration.
- Maintain and develop enterprise‑level Power BI datasets, ensuring scalability and optimal performance.
- Establish data refresh schedules, incremental loading strategies, and performance tuning for both streaming and batch analytics.
- Use metadata‑driven frameworks to streamline development and maintenance of data pipelines.
- Collaborate with integration engineers to optimise pipelines for analytics consumption.
- Advocate for best practice in data modelling, governance, and architectural standards.
- Optimise SQL queries within pipelines to improve performance and scalability.
- Stay current with emerging technologies across the Microsoft and Databricks ecosystem..
Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:
- Previous experience in a Data Engineering role or similar.
- Understanding of Agile methodologies and experience working in iterative development environments.
- Strong technical capability across data engineering, data modelling, and pipeline optimisation.
- Experience working with Azure data services, Power BI, and modern data architectures.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Microsoft certifications in Azure Data Services or Power BI.
- Experience working on capital projects or large‑scale public sector programmes would be beneficial but not required
- Reside locally to Bristol or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).
