Head Veterinary Nurse / Lead Registered Veterinary Nurse

North London | Salary: DOE | Full‑Time | Independent Practice

The Role

This is an ideal position for an RVN looking to step into a leadership role or an existing Head Nurse seeking a supportive, family‑oriented environment where both patient welfare and team wellbeing are genuine priorities.

You will lead the nursing team, help shape clinical standards, and play a key role in maintaining a calm, fear‑free approach to patient care. Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will remain hands‑on clinically, supporting consultations, anaesthesia, theatre, inpatient care and nurse‑led clinics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the nursing team on a day‑to‑day basis
  • Maintain and continually improve nursing and clinical standards
  • Assist with consultations, diagnostics and surgical procedures
  • Monitor anaesthesia and provide perioperative nursing care
  • Run nurse clinics and preventative healthcare consultations
  • Support training and mentoring of junior nurses and students
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and stock control
  • Promote a calm, empathetic and fear‑free approach to patient handling
  • Contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the practice

Working Pattern

Full‑time, 40 hours per week

This is a highly regarded independent practice with RCVS and ISFM accreditation and a strong reputation for exceptional patient and client care. The team is committed to fear‑free handling and is actively working towards formal accreditation. Patients are treated with patience, empathy and respect, ensuring that appointments are never rushed and handling is always low stress.

The modern, spacious clinic is equipped with:

  • Digital X‑ray and dental X‑ray
  • Ultrasound and endoscopy
  • In‑house laboratory
  • Tonometry
  • Advanced surgical and diagnostic equipment

Located in a leafy and vibrant area of North London, the practice is surrounded by cafés, boutiques and green spaces including Alexandra Park and Highgate Wood.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary up to £35,000 depending on experience
  • 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays
