Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Systems Administrator to support our global conferences technology team. In this role, you will be responsible for deploying, maintaining, and supporting multiple sets of systems that are remotely installed at venues around the world. You will work closely with our networking team to ensure robust, secure, and consistent infrastructure at every location, and help uphold enterprise standards and best practices across all deployments. This role requires domestic and possibly international travel to support our systems and services on site in several locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy, manage, and support VMware vSphere and ESX environments, ensuring optimal resource utilization, performance, and scalability for conference systems globally.
- Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot physical hardware to ensure all services at events are fully operational.
- Administer and support Windows Server operating systems, including configuration, patch management, and troubleshooting, for systems deployed to multiple venues.
- Maintain virtual switch infrastructure, VLANs, and virtual network connectivity in alignment with enterprise and conference requirements.
- Collaborate with the networking team to ensure integration of systems and network architecture at all remote venues.
- Support the implementation of redundant and highly available architectures to maximize uptime and support disaster recovery objectives for conference deployments.
- Help drive consistency in system configuration, security, and operational standards across all conference venues.
- Monitor system performance, conduct root cause analysis, and proactively resolve infrastructure issues, including those arising from remote installations.
- Maintain documentation of system configurations, deployment procedures, and venue-specific requirements.
- Assist in mentoring junior administrators and share technical knowledge within the conference technology team.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution for global conference systems.
- Participate in and help coordinate on‑call rotations and response to critical incidents involving conference technology infrastructure.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM field.
- Minimum 5–8 years of progressive experience in systems administration.
- Solid experience supporting complex, distributed systems.
- Experience as a Systems Administrator in large‑scale, enterprise environments with a global footprint.
- Proficiency with VMware vSphere and ESX, including management of virtual machines, hosts, clusters, and storage integration.
- Strong knowledge of Windows Server operating systems (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, Group Policy, and related services.
- Hands‑on experience with virtual switches, VLANs, and virtual network troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting redundant, highly available architectures (e.g., failover clusters, replication, load balancing).
- Foundational knowledge of network architecture to ensure integration and support for systems at remote venues.
- Understanding of enterprise IT standards, security best practices, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience working collaboratively with networking teams to deliver reliable infrastructure.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills for distributed systems.
- Good documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience assisting with projects and supporting team members.
Preferred Skills
- Master’s degree in engineering discipline.
- Relevant technical certifications (e.g., VMware VCP/VCAP, Microsoft MCSE, CompTIA Network+, cloud, networking, security).
- Experience with enterprise storage solutions (SAN/NAS) and their integration with virtual environments.
- Proficiency with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, etc.).
- Experience with enterprise backup, replication, and disaster recovery solutions.
