Consultant Radiologist with an interest in MSK Imaging

Applications are invited for a fixed‑term Consultant Radiologist post with a specialist interest in Musculoskeletal Imaging.

Main duties
- General elective and acute (hot) reporting
- General and subspecialty ultrasound lists
- Sub‑speciality reporting
- Supervision of radiology trainees, extended‑scope radiographers, sonographers and undergraduate students
- Participation in multidisciplinary meetings with Rheumatology and Trauma & Orthopaedic teams
- Participation in the diagnostic on‑call service, including intermittent overnight coverage
- Teaching and training of rotating radiology trainees, subspecialty trainees and MSc students in the radiology Masters programme
- Supporting clinical teaching and educational supervision for the radiology training scheme
- Contributing to audit, research and quality‑improvement projects
- Clinical leadership within the musculoskeletal imaging service
On‑call commitment
The post will contribute to the Trust’s on‑call rota, providing evening coverage (17:00‑21:00 weekdays) and weekend duty with a variable start time as part of a 1 in 10 rota. An initial overnight on‑call commitment (21:00‑09:00) is expected for the first period.
Location & working pattern
- Based at Worthing Hospital, with possible rotation across sites in the Sussex region

Qualifications & experience
Experience / Qualifications
- FRCR or its recognised equivalent
- Full and specialist registration with the GMC, or eligibility to register within six months of interview
- Higher degree (Bachelor, Master, PhD)
- Distinctions, scholarships, prizes or other academic achievements
Clinical skills and experience
- Broad experience of general acute diagnostic imaging, including trauma CT, and general outpatient imaging
- Good cross‑sectional skills in body and emergency imaging
- Dedicated Musculoskeletal radiology training
- Experience of sub‑specialty musculoskeletal reporting including ultrasound and MRI
- Experience of musculoskeletal interventions including image‑guided injections and fluoroscopy
- Experience of leading multidisciplinary discussions
- Experience of ultrasound‑guided interventional procedures including drain insertion and biopsies
- Interest in paediatric radiology
Knowledge
- Breadth of experience in and outside the specialty
Organisation and planning
- Experience and ability to work in multi‑professional teams
- Understanding of NHS, clinical governance and resource constraints
- Evidence of managerial skills (e.g., achievements or courses attended)
Teaching skills
- Evidence of interest and commitment to teaching
- Recognised teaching qualification
Academic and research
- Evidence of participation in audit
- Research experience and publications
- Prizes and honours
- Appropriate career progression to date
Personal attributes
- Good communication skills, both oral and written
