Mechanical Maintenance Engineer | Birmingham

Salary: £52,000 + Overtime

Shifts: Continentals (Other shifts available – apply to discuss)

Are you a proactive engineer with a “right first time” mindset? Due to significant site expansion, a leading international manufacturing giant is looking for several Mechanical Maintenance Engineers to join their Birmingham-based team.

This is a high-impact role within a heavy industry environment where your expertise in CNC equipment, hydraulics, and pneumatics will directly contribute to the site’s continued growth and efficiency.

The Role

Working within a culture of continuous improvement, you will be a key player in the development and upkeep of both new and established machinery. This is a varied, hands-on role based on the shop floor, encompassing preventative, corrective, and reactive maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance across the plant and facilities.
  • Maintain a wide range of mechanical equipment, including Manual Lathes, Millers, Planers, and Bar Peelers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving to drive long‑term reliability.
  • Collaborate with production teams to minimize downtime and enhance productivity.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards.

What We Are Looking For

Essential

  • Minimum ONC or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Proven track record in maintaining machine tools (Manual or CNC).
  • Experience in heavy industry (e.g., metal, presswork, or CNC manufacturing) is highly preferred.
  • Strong fault‑finding abilities and hands‑on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • A dynamic team player with a proactive attitude toward preventative maintenance.

Desirable

  • Skilled in fitting, machining, and welding.
  • Experience in gearbox disassembly and rebuilds.
