Freelance Design Manager

My Client is seeking an experienced Freelance Design Manager to join their team, working across a range of projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised professional to take ownership of the design process from early‑stage concept through to construction delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of Pre‑Construction Services Agreements (PCSA) including contractor tendering, analysis, and presentation to the commercial team.
• Manage design progression from RIBA Stage 1 through Stage 4, ensuring successful planning approvals and compliance with Building Safety Regulator (BSR) requirements and Building Control standards.
• Oversee the preparation and coordination of design documentation, including prescribed documents and subcontractor tender enquiries.
• Coordinate and manage the on‑site design process during RIBA Stages 4 and 5 (Technical Design & Construction) in line with company design management procedures.
• Take responsibility for building services design coordination where a Building Services Manager is not available.
• Ensure that all design outputs meet project programme, quality, and compliance requirements.

Key Requirements

• Proven experience in a Design Manager role within the construction industry.
• Strong understanding of RIBA stages, particularly Stages 1‑5.
• Experience managing PCSA processes and contractor procurement.
• Knowledge of planning approvals, BSR, and Building Control requirements.
• Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary design teams and manage stakeholder engagement.
• Strong organisational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
