As the Biodiversity Officer, you will support the delivery of the Council’s biodiversity ambitions and contribute to a wide range of initiatives that promote nature recovery and environmental resilience.
Working as part of collaborative team, you will:
- Support the delivery of projects and actions within Cherwell’s Biodiversity Action Plan and Oxfordshire’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
- Assist in developing, monitoring and reviewing strategies and action plans, including a new Cherwell Biodiversity Action Plan.
- Work with local communities, Town and Parish Councils to support grassroot biodiversity initiatives.
- Champion opportunities to enhance biodiversity and nature recovery in decisions, policies and projects across different council teams and services.
- Help identify and secure funding to support nature recovery projects.
- Support positive work with local partner organisations to help deliver collaborative opportunities that benefit biodiversity and nature recovery.
- Assist with the delivery of statutory duties arising from the Environment Act 2021, including the Biodiversity Duty.
This is a hands‑on and varied role, ideal for someone looking to grow their career in biodiversity and environmental management.
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a strong interest in biodiversity and nature recovery.
- A relevant environmental degree or equivalent experience.
- Experience supporting biodiversity or nature-based projects, policies or strategies.
- A good understanding of local habitats, protected species and wider biodiversity issues.
- Knowledge of biodiversity conservation, protection and nature recovery methods.
- Awareness of UK biodiversity legislation and policy.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage a range of audiences.
- Ability to analyse information and produce clear reports.
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities and work effectively as part of a team.
You will also be someone who enjoys working collaboratively, building positive relationships and contributing to meaningful environmental outcomes.
