CAMHS Crisis and Intensive Home Treatment Mental Health Practitioner

Grade Band 6, Permanent contract, working shifts on a self‑rostering 8:00 am – 8:00 pm service, 37.5 hours per week. Job reference 186‑355‑26‑MH. Salary £39,959 – £48,117 per annum (pro‑rata for part‑time). Closing date 25/05/2026.

We are recruiting for an experienced CAMHS Crisis Mental Health Practitioner in the Crisis and Home Treatment Team. The role supports young people in crisis, delivering assessment, therapeutic interventions, and risk management across community and acute settings.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of an MDT to assess, formulate and support young people and families during crisis situations.
  • Offer targeted follow‑up interventions across therapeutic modalities.
  • Manage mental health risk and coordinate with the network to ensure safety and wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate case records in line with Trust policy.
  • Provide clinical assessment and evidence‑based interventions following statutory guidance.
  • Contribute to shared caseload, safeguarding, and national & local legislation compliance.
  • Offer supervision to junior colleagues and receive regular supervision.
  • Plan smooth transitions where clinically indicated.
  • Collaborate with community teams, GPs, schools, social care, inpatient wards, and other CAMHS services.
  • Manage clinical risk, produce care plans and safety plans.
  • Maintain contemporary records in electronic data recording systems.
  • Support the delivery of training programmes to multi‑agency staff.
  • Promote a team‑working environment and support peers.
  • Participate in delivery of training programmes to interdisciplinary professionals.
  • Provide consultation to professionals enhancing workforce skills in recognising mental health needs.
  • Support colleagues in tackling stigma related to mental health.
  • Engage in continuous development and training on the CYP IAPT agenda.
  • Maintain contemporary risk management plans for all clinical cases.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Relevant professional qualification e.g. RMN, RNLD, Allied Health Professional with appropriate accreditation.
  • Registration with relevant professional body.
  • Evidence of post‑registration learning and development.
  • Additional relevant postgraduate training.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of theories and factors contributing to children and young people’s mental health difficulties.
  • Ability to maintain accurate case records in line with Trust policies.

  • Understanding of policies, strategies, and key indicators for child mental health services.
  • Proficiency in electronic data recording systems.

Experience

  • Post‑registration experience in CAMHS, acute mental health, crisis teams, liaison psychiatry.
  • Experience of multidisciplinary and multi‑agency working.
  • Competency in comprehensive mental health assessment and risk assessment.
  • Experience developing robust care plans, risk management and safety plans.
  • Understanding of Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, CPA & safeguarding.
  • Ability to meet performance and data quality targets.
  • Experience providing or receiving clinical supervision.
  • Ability to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns.
  • Experience making clinical decisions, triage and priority weighting.
  • Use of Routine Outcome Measures (ROMS) in practice.
  • Delegation of clinical tasks and management of team diary.
  • Experience in community‑based mental health teams.
  • Experience in liaison psychiatry.
  • Ability to develop rapport with people on the autism spectrum or other neuro‑diversity.
  • Experience in discharge coordination and planning meetings.
  • Experience delivering training to professionals or parent/carer groups.

Training, Licensing & Contractual Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use preferred (reasonable adjustments available).
  • Qualification or willingness to complete as Student Practice Placement Assessor or Supervisor.
  • Experience of supporting, mentoring and supervising students on placement.
