Senior Finite Element/Structural Analysis Engineer
As a Senior Finite Element (FE) Analyst your primary role will be to aid the design of automotive and industrial products such as engines, transmissions, batteries and chassis systems by undertaking linear and nonlinear FE analysis using Abaqus, ANSA and Hyperworks tools. This is a lead role to deliver structural analysis activities from concept to production design, managing junior team members and liaising directly with our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead analysis tasks on medium and large projects.
- Apply theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to solve basic analytical engineering problems.
- Build high‑fidelity FE models for engine, transmission and other components and systems using commercial CAE tools based on CAD and other engineering data.
- Conduct linear and nonlinear, static and dynamic FE analysis.
- Prepare detailed technical presentations for internal and client project engineering reviews.
- Interface with internal and external clients to deliver updates, design recommendations and analysis results.
- Perform technical supervision of junior team members.
- Work with proposal leaders to develop scope of work and estimate resource needs.
- Assist with technique and analysis methodology development.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Person Specification
- A deep understanding of automotive systems design, load paths and behaviour under various operating conditions.
- Familiar with static and dynamic stiffness, linear and non‑linear stress, fatigue, modal, system noise and vibration analysis and optimisation. Specialism in all these areas is not essential.
- Ability to define component concept designs through optimisation and a CAE‑led design process.
- Ability to refine designs and perform extensive virtual validation using detailed assembly models including interfaces, joints, preloads and measured data as appropriate.
- Understanding of durability and fatigue analysis and assessments.
Skills and Attributes
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Comfortable writing technical reports.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proactive, self‑motivated, and attention to detail.
Experience
- Professional experience performing FE analysis.
- Experience with Hyperworks or ANSA pre‑ and post‑processing software.
- Experience with the Abaqus and OptiStruct analysis toolset for implicit FE analysis and fatigue analysis tools such as FEMFAT, nCode or FE‑Safe.
- Experience performing nonlinear static FE and fatigue analysis.
- Experience with at least one commercial CAD package (e.g., Catia, Creo, NX, SolidWorks, SpaceClaim).
Qualifications and Experience
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Advanced experience in static and dynamic FE analysis.
- Advanced experience in fatigue analysis.
- Advanced experience in numerical methods including multi‑body dynamics and finite difference methods.
