Job Description:

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) is looking for a Clinical Deputy Manager for Eden Ward, a low‑secure unit for up to 13 women with forensic and complex trauma histories.

The successful candidate will support clinical leadership on the ward, focusing on safety and quality aspects of patient care, incident management, multidisciplinary team support, and co‑produced services. The role ensures visible clinical support and direction to the ward team and contributes to a firm career structure for succession planning.

Main duties of the job

  • Work within a multi‑disciplinary learning disability inpatient service ensuring compliance with organisational systems and processes.
  • Manage and organise competing priorities and change in complex situations.
  • Act as a resource of clinical knowledge and competence, contributing to staff and service development.
  • Work across a 24‑hour period, supporting audit, guidelines and quality improvement to maintain high standards of safety and quality.
  • Undertake trusted assessments and provide evidence‑based clinical interventions and leadership.
  • Gain operational management skills and safety improvement expertise as part of a Band 6 position.

Job responsibilities

  • Formulate and coordinate holistic assessment and treatment of mental and physical needs of patients.
  • Act as Nurse in Charge and model effective shift management.
  • Supervise and develop junior staff, ensuring competency sign‑off for staff, students and trainees.
  • Maintain robust processes for care planning, review, evaluation and safety planning, reporting to the multi‑professional team.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Support the Clinical Lead in maintaining and developing the therapeutic environment.
  • Lead risk management, ensuring patient, positive risk and environmental risk assessments are embedded and trust processes followed.
  • Maintain high clinical standards and service delivery based on evidence and professional judgement.
  • Identify needs to facilitate safe discharge.
  • Lead adherence to and reporting of safety and quality issues and conduct clinical audits.
  • Know key partnership services, eligibility criteria and access procedures.
  • Provide supervision, guidance and assessment to junior staff and students.
  • Lead and coordinate quality improvement and liaise with the QI team.
  • Support staff training and development appropriate to inpatient care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g., RNLD/RMN or relevant allied health professional qualification).
  • Current unrestricted registration with NMC or HCPC.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Willingness to undertake Quality Improvement training.

Knowledge

  • Effective organisational and delegation skills.
  • Demonstrate and apply understanding of policies and procedures.

Experience

  • Substantial experience working in a clinical care setting with people with learning disabilities and/or autism and mental health diagnosis.
  • Significant experience of assessment, formulation, risk assessment and positive risk management.
