Overview

Our client, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), is seeking a new Director of Commercial & Growth for its Lifelong Learning division which is central to LSE’s ambition to extend its academic mission beyond degree education by providing transformative learning experiences to professionals, organisations and lifelong learners worldwide.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President (Education), the Director of Commercial & Growth is a key member of the Lifelong Learning Division’s senior leadership team and a principal ambassador for LSE Executive Education and Lifelong Learning with corporate and institutional clients. This role leads the Division’s business development, client management, open and custom programme sales, and marketing functions, ensuring that growth targets are achieved through a coherent, insight-driven commercial strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership – develop and own the division’s commercial strategy
  • Business development and client management – build and sustain a global, high-value portfolio of corporate, public and institutional client relationships
  • Open and custom programme portfolio – hold strategic accountability for the revenue performance
  • Brand and marketing – oversee the development of a compelling and coherent brand identity for LSE Lifelong Learning & Executive Education whilst ensuring the division’s marketing strategy is integrated with commercial priorities
  • Planning and resources – deliver on the division’s commercial revenue budgets, ensuring robust financial planning, accurate forecasting and effective resource allocation
  • Leadership and people management – provide inclusive, values-led leadership to the commercial and marketing functions, fostering a high-performance culture that is collaborative, client-focused and commercially ambitious

Qualifications and experience

  • Substantial and proven experience in a senior commercial leadership role within executive education, professional learning or a closely related sector, with a demonstrable track record of revenue growth and new market development
  • Significant experience of leading and winning complex, high-value business development opportunities with corporate, public sector or institutional clients, including proposal development, pricing, contract negotiation
  • Significant experience of leading, developing and performance-managing high-performing commercial and marketing teams
  • Experience of setting, monitoring and reviewing complex commercial budgets and revenue targets, with accountability for financial performance
  • Strategic and entrepreneurial mindset, identifying and developing commercial opportunities in a complex, multi-segment and competitive market
  • Sophisticated stakeholder management, with the confidence and credibility to engage effectively with senior corporate clients, LSE faculty, professional services colleagues and external partners
  • Excellent people management skills, with the ability to inspire, develop and hold to account a diverse team across commercial and marketing functions
  • Ability to lead effectively through ambiguity and change, maintaining strategic clarity while managing operational complexity across multiple concurrent priorities

Benefits

A generous reward package is offered including a salary of £120,000 – 130,000 plus strong benefits.
