About the role

You will be one of our Science subject specialists, responsible for managing tasks to ensure the successful delivery of examinations worldwide. In this valued role, you will oversee the production of question papers, ensure they are 100% accurate, free from error, and comparable across series, years, and countries. You will set grade thresholds, work with stakeholders and assessment specialists—including Setters, Revisers, Vetters, and Principal Examiners—manage examiner teams, and collaborate with ministry partners globally to develop and revise syllabuses.

Every question paper must assess what we say it assesses, and the grade thresholds set must provide a reliable indicator of candidates’ attainment for employers and universities worldwide.

  • Oversee the production of the question papers taken by learners in the many exam series we offer, ensuring they are 100% accurate and free from error.
  • Ensure question papers are comparable from series‑to‑series, year‑to‑year, and are fair to candidates from different countries and backgrounds.
  • Work on setting the thresholds that determine grades.
  • Work with a range of stakeholders and Assessment Specialists, including Setters, Revisers, Vetters and Principal Examiners.
  • Manage teams of examiners and contribute to succession planning for the future.
  • Work collaboratively with our ministry partners around the world to develop and revise their syllabuses.

As one of our specialists in Science, you will have a degree in Biology, Chemistry or Physics, or a closely related subject. We welcome applications from individuals with strong classroom experience and/or subject expertise, especially those with experience in a Science‑related subject and an understanding of project management or assessment in an educational setting.

  • A high standard of written and spoken English.
  • Strong time‑management, prioritisation and planning skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to enable time‑bound results.
  • A collaborative approach to working with others to achieve team objectives.

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Private medical and Permanent Health Insurance.
  • Discretionary annual bonus.
  • Group personal pension scheme.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We are a Disability Confident (DC) employer that is committed to equality and inclusion. The DC scheme’s Offer of an Interview commitment applies to applicants who opt in, and disclose a disability or a long‑term health condition, and who best meet the minimum criteria for the role. In instances where interviewing all qualifying candidates is not practicable and/or appropriate, we prioritise those who best meet the minimum criteria, as we would for applicants who do not have a disability or long‑term health condition.

Cambridge University Press & Assessment is an approved UK employer for the sponsorship of eligible roles and applicants under the Skilled Worker visa route. Please refer to the gov.uk website for guidance to understand your own eligibility based on the role you are applying for.
