An exciting opportunity has arisen for an elective specialist nurse to work within the Trauma and Orthopaedics Service. This pivotal role holds primary responsibility for the provision of specialist nursing for a defined patient/client group, practising autonomously as a core member of the multi‑disciplinary team (working with ward based teams, theatres, pre‑assessment and outpatients). You will be part of an exciting and dynamic team contributing significantly to our service in a complex yet stimulating environment.

What You’ll Do

The post holder will review elective patients and their pathways and be the identified key worker for the patient/client caseload to coordinate treatment and care. You will provide specialist advice, education and support to patients, their carers and other healthcare professionals. You will practice clinically in agreed care settings and advise and support Divisions regarding the overall management of the service.

The post holder will also work across professional, departmental and Trust boundaries as required to develop and support patient‑centred seamless care, with responsibility for leading nurse‑led care initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for an excellent communicator with clinical and leadership experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics. The candidate should be energetic, forward‑thinking, and eager to develop their own clinical and leadership skills. Experience in a busy environment is desired.

Person specification

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience

  • Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
  • Level 7 Post Graduate Certificate (minimum 60 credits), Master’s Degree within relevant speciality or equivalent knowledge assessed through evidence of relevant speciality training, experience or portfolio
  • Specialist training / qualification in area of practice
  • Evidence of providing learning in practice
  • Evidence of experience and completion of all band 6 competencies within relevant speciality
  • Evidence of change management, leadership and innovation

Desirable criteria

  • Counselling / advanced communication skills qualification / training
  • Registered as an independent prescriber
  • Leadership qualification / training
