Commercial Solicitor (In-House) – Belfast
We are currently partnering with a leading organisation in the energy sector to appoint a Commercial Solicitor to join their high-performing in-house legal team in Belfast.

The Role
Working closely with internal stakeholders, you will provide pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of business activities. This role spans both commercial contracts and sector-specific regulatory work, offering excellent variety and exposure.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of high-value commercial contracts, including SaaS, software licensing, confidentiality agreements, and commercial terms
- Providing commercially focused legal advice across multiple business areas and supporting the delivery of key projects and strategic initiatives
- Advising on legal issues relating to intellectual property, technology, and emerging areas such as AI and evolving regulatory frameworks
- Supporting matters within the energy sector, including projects across renewables, infrastructure, and sustainability initiatives
- Identifying and mitigating legal and commercial risk in a fast-paced, growing environment
- Managing relationships with external advisors and key business stakeholders
- Taking responsibility for compliance, governance, and continuous process improvement initiatives
- Working collaboratively as part of cross-functional and multidisciplinary project teams
The Candidate
This role would suit a commercially minded solicitor who enjoys working closely with the business and taking a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach.
Key criteria:
- 5+ years’ PQE in commercial law, ideally with experience in commercial contracts, IP/IT, or the energy sector
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills, with a clear commercial mindset
- Ability to provide clear, practical advice and communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders
- A proactive, collaborative approach and the confidence to engage across all levels of the business
- Self-motivated and highly organised, with the ability to manage your own workload effectively
- A genuine interest in technology and/or the energy sector
Desirable experience:
- Experience in a commercial law firm or in-house legal team (NI, ROI or UK)
- Exposure to high-value or complex commercial contracts
- Experience working as part of multidisciplinary or project-based teams
- Familiarity with procurement matters (regulated and unregulated)
