An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Specialist Medicine Business Unit 1 for a Pathway Co-ordinator as part of the Respiratory Medical Secretary Team.
The post holder will provide an efficient secretarial service to consultants and their team in respect of NHS work. They will work flexibly with or alongside medical secretarial staff, consultants and other teams when required.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated team player with excellent communication and problem‑solving skills. The role requires high levels of tact and diplomacy, with the ability to prioritise workload effectively to enable day‑to‑day management. You will work alongside a number of consultants and various other clinical staff.
Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact for patients and medical staff on behalf of the consultant and team ensuring that all queries are answered with skill and sensitivity in a courteous and professional manner.
- Typing and dispatch of clinical correspondence within agreed timescales and quality standards.
- Ensure urgent test results/correspondence is brought to the immediate attention of the consultant or team.
- Understand the 18‑week RTT process.
- Support management in the preparation and validation of waiting lists and performance data in the team leader’s absence.
- Liaise effectively with wards, departments and other clinical staff within the hospital and external healthcare providers.
All training required will be provided on appointment.

Person Specification
Knowledge, training & experience
- Demonstrable experience of working in a support secretary role.
- Good standard of English to O level/GCSE (A‑C grade) or equivalent.
- Experience of using IT systems and/or data input.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to use various NHS systems.
- Understanding of 18 RTT/experience.
- Experience of audio typing/letter processing.
Planning & Organising
- Able to prioritise work and escalates problems.
- Plan and organise own time, flexible approach.
- Demonstrates experience of organising.
Communication
- Good communication skills; excellent written and verbal.
- Able to deal with patients/public via different mediums.
